Amen! I found myself thinking about the advice "Mom sets the tone," the other week. For my family, in that phase, me bringing my calmest, best self was the secret sauce, but it required inner-work from me in a way that felt immense, but also invisible. I am thankful that my partner was supportive and acknowledged the work I put in to helping my child work through a rough patch.

Last year, I read Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World, which makes a case for universal basic income and the way that it would support equality and a better quality of life for everyone while also compensating those who are doing important but as-yet unpaid work. It really could do so much good.

Thank you for this essay. It's such an important topic!

Kasey you said the magic words!!!

UBI could change this country in so many deeply healthy ways. It would change the world. If everyone had a floor through which they could not fall, just think of what we could build. If you haven't yet read Emergent Strategy, I definitely recommend it. Not specifically about UBI, but about thinking differently about creating the future.

I'll put Less Is More on my Libby list now :)
